Sometimes one is struck by the richness of nature. While not many halogenating enzymes are known yet, there are a lot more out there. And as our study, now published in Catalysts, showed, there seems to be genetic and structural diversity. Together with our colleagues from bioinformatics, we were able to make new halogenating enzymes accessible for research and perhaps in the future also for preparative implementation. The recently identified vanadate-dependent haloperoxidase from Rhodoplanes roseus seems to suffer less substrate inhibition - a feature that is desirable.
