Halogenase PrnC can do more than its natural substrate

Zoom

The enzyme PrnC can halogenate directly from salts.

Jan Gebauer et al. have shown that the enzyme PrnC is able to perform targeted halogenations on pyrrole rings. The successful production of the enzyme in E. coli and the detailed investigation of its substrate recognition are significant milestones. This discovery opens up promising possibilities for the development of new pyrrolnitrin analogues with potential antimicrobial activity. We congratulate Jan Gebauer on this achievement and are excited about the publication, which demonstrates the potential of PrnC.
