Lupins: Flower magic with green added value
Lecture at Wissenschaft online

Zoom

On April 18, 2024, Thomas Classen will give a lecture as part of the "Science online" lecture series entitled "Lupins: Flower magic with green added value". The lecture starts at 3 p.m. and will take place online via MS Teams.

What will be presented:

Together with colleagues from RWTH Aachen University and the University of Bonn, Jülich scientists are researching how to exploit the many benefits of lupins and create added value for farmers and the environment. In his lecture on Thursday, April 18 at 3 p.m., Thomas Classen from IBG-1: Bioorganic Chemistry will share exciting insights into the world of natural substances and their versatile applications. While lupins may already serve as eye candy in your garden, there is much more potential slumbering within them.

Background:

Lupins are versatile flowering plants that are native to all continents. Their benefits are impressive: they enrich the soil with nitrogen and make phosphorus available. But that's not all. Valuable proteins can be extracted from lupins and the bitter lupins also contain useful alkaloids.
